Wire Welding Applications

We are one of the only companies who have taken wire welding to the field. In 2004 we bought over 200 33# spools of wire and only 2 boxes of 7018 stick Rod. Wire is faster, better penetration, and has less waste to clean up.

Wire welding application offers us many advantages. The wire-welding process can be used any place that stick-electrode can be used. This makes it possible to carry out one-process welding in the erection of structural steel.

As proven on major high-rise projects, this factor is possibly just as important as the higher deposition rates of wire welding in reducing erection cost.

One-process welding substantially reduces the amount of equipment needed on a job and allows every welder to be qualified for every joint, permitting a more systematic deployment of men, equipment, and materials and reduces the delays and minimizes equipment handling.

One-process welding from tack-welding to column-splicing and beam-to-column welding gives erectors the opportunity to take systems-approach to erection logistics, with the result that cost savings above those attributable to the speed of wire welding process are realizable.

  •   The deepest penetration occurs when straight CO2 gas shielding is used. This deep penetration results in an increase in the effective throat of a fillet joint.
  •   When compared to stick-electrode welding, gives deposition rates up to four times as great, often decreasing welding cost by as much as 50 to 75%.
