SQUARE BALE HAY TARPS

Hay growers around the nation are recognizing it makes no sense at all to spend thousands of dollars to produce stacks of hay bales only to let them spoil. Hay tarps are an economical means to protect your investment and get the best return possible.

The first thing to know is your stacking pattern and proper stacking techniques. Properly stacked hay bales will prolong the life of a hay tarp by providing a tighter fit and adequate run-off for rain and snow.

Second, it is important to decide what you will stack the hay on to prevent bottom bale damage. Some people prefer elevated asphalt, rock, or other surfaces with drainage to either side of the stack pad.

Here Are Some Hay Stacking Tips:

Build a level area on which to stack hay. (Click here for Stackpad Video) The ground should slope away from the stack to allow for drainage. Lay out baler twine on the ground as a guide for building a straight stack. Build your stack with a peak whenever possible to allow snow and rain to run off. (Click here for Stacking Hay with Peak Video).

Possible Stacking Patterns:

These stacking patterns are based on 4' x 4' x 8' one ton big bales or by 16" x 18" x 48" small bales. View the photos and suggested tarp sizes and convert according to your bale size and stacking pattern.

Performer Hay Tarp on single wide hay stack

Single wide hay stacks are generally flat on top; however, small bales can be run the length on top to create a peak. An 8' wide hay stack would typically take a 14' wide hay tarp (shown) or a 25' wide hay tarp, which would cover an additional 5.5' per side for added side protection.

Performer Hay Tarp on double wide hay stack

Double wide hay stacks are generally peaked on top to allow snow and rain to run off.

Hay tarps are installed white side up and silver side down. As you feed out of the hay stack, the hay tarp can be stretched tightly back and retightened to provide continued protection. It is important to fold and tighten the hay tarp securely to prevent wind damage to the hay tarp.

A 16' wide hay stack will typically take a 25' wide hay tarp (shown) or a 35' wide hay tarp, which would cover an additional 4' per side for added side protection.

Performer Hay Tarp on triple wide hay stack

Triple wide hay stacks are generally peaked on top to allow snow and rain to run off.

Stack ends are left unobstructed to allow air exchange from end to end during the curing process, except in high humidity areas where stack ends are kept closed.

A 24' wide hay stack will typically take a 35' wide hay tarp, or a 45' wide hay tarp which would cover an additional 5' per side for added side protection.

Performer Hay tarp's unique tie down design

The Performer Hay Tarp's unique tie down design makes it the premier hay tarp in today's market. Sections of PVC pipe or wood are pre-installed into a sleeve that runs the length of the hay tarp on both sides, which help keep the tarp taut by applying even pressure over larger sections of tarp.

All ropes are pre-installed to each section of pipe eliminating any assembly for the end user. Attached to each rope is a steel J-hook and our patented Super Cinch tie down.

The patented Super Cinch tie down system eliminates tying and untying any knots, making it the quickest way to retighten your tarp, protecting it from wind damage. One person can apply up to 450 pounds of pressure on each rope.

All Super Cinches are included, and pre-installed for your convenience.

Performer Hay Tarp Seatbelt Webbing installed in end pocket

2" seatbelt webbing is pre-installed into a pocket on either end of the tarp, allowing the ends of the tarp to be cinched tight around a multitude of stack configurations, insuring a snug fit and protecting the ends of the hay tarp from wind damage.

Each Performer Hay Tarp has a rain gutter running the length on both sides which helps eliminate rain from running down the ropes and the sides of the hay stack, damaging and discoloring the hay.

All our hay tarps are accordion folded, then rolled to the center and banded. This insures that you receive an installation ready product.

Place the tarp on top of your hay stack. Cut the bands, unroll the tarp down each side of the stack and secure the seatbelt webbing on that end. Then simply walk the tarp out to the other end of your hay stack and the hay tarp unfolds itself as it is deployed.

Finish installation by securing all tie-downs "guitar string" tight
All Inland Tarp hay tarps are accordion folded and rolled to center for easy installation.

When storing a Performer Hay Tarp insert the j-hooks into the Super Cinch to prevent puncturing the hay tarp

When storing a Performer Hay Tarp, first fan fold the tarp, then straighten out all ropes. Insert the end of the J-Hook into the Super Cinch to insure that the J-hooks do not puncture your hay tarp during the rolling process. Fold the ropes onto the hay tarp, making sure that they are neatly coiled to avoid tangling during installation next season.

Additional Information:

Your haystack can be as long as you need. While smaller, independent stacks are common, our hay tarps can be overlapped to cover much longer stacks if desired.

Multiple tarps on a single stack should be overlapped 3' to 4' and then tied down independently of one another.

As your stack settles, retighten your ropes regularly to keep them "guitar string" tight. A loose hay cover will rip in high winds.

side curtains and bottom bale protection are recommended for horse hay and export hay where greener hay is preferred.

Side curtains and bottom bale protection are optional accessories. Especiall for feed stores, horse hay and export, where greener hay is preferred.
